Sometimes it is interesting to hear lesser-known pieces, especially of such masters as Puccini, for which we are accustomed to hearing the works famous and leave the rest of the production.
This CD, Puccini Discoveries, directed by Riccardo Chailly and Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, gives us an opportunity silage.
First we listen to many who otherwise would be difficult to sing again: Disappeared the sound of arms or anthem to Rome. Some pieces or arrangements for symphonic bands that sometimes take over overture or famous arias, others are completely original. But the interesting part is the ending of the CD is composed by Luciano Berio of Turandot in 2001, about 80 years from the Master Alfano.
has been discussed several times on the last minutes of the last opera by Puccini and here we have another interpretation, always made notes on the Master, but that dissolves in a different way the last moments, making them more reflective and less solemn. Perhaps it would do the same as Puccini? This is unknown, but for lovers of Turandot an essential part. We believe that
something is not right even if the interpretation of Berio alcunui steps have the same version of Alfano's elegant majesty. If the final 30 seconds of the best known version of this leave any doubt failed to give us a satisfactory alternative solution, although of great interest to make a comparison on different scenarios and open up new poetic Puccini.
A cd that we believe to be missed.
